Dates Fry
Dates fry/dates fritters are known as eethapazham porichathu in Malayalam. This dates fry/dates fritters are a delicious snack popular in northern Kerala. In fact, dates are famous for their nutrition value. So it is a fruit recommended by dieticians and doctors to increase haemoglobin count in the blood. Dates are a rich source of iron, that is needed for our body to produce and maintain haemoglobin count in the blood.
Dates have numerous health benefits. They are a rich source of fibre, magnesium, potassium and carbohydrates. During Ramadan time the Muslims breaks their fast by eating dates since they believe that Muhammed ate dates to break his fast.
It has been an all-time favourite fruit of mine since childhood. A doctor once found that I had a less haemoglobin count in my body. Since then, dates got a permanent place in our kitchen storeroom.
There are many recipes of dates fruit, among them dates fry is my favourite.
Dates itself is incredibly tasty so when it’s getting a deep-fry with a sweet and tasty coating which enhances the taste. And the smell while frying is unexplainable, just experience it by making this recipe at home.
The recipe is made by coating the dates with a batter and deep fry those in oil until golden brown colour. An easy Malabar snack recipe with a delicious taste is here for the food lovers.

Ingredients to make this dates fry/dates fritters
- 1.Dates: 15 No
- 2. All-purpose flour: 1 cups (180ml cup)
- 3. Wheat Flour: 1 tbsp
- 4.Sugar: 4 tbsp
- 5.Salt: A pinch
- 6.Baking Powder: ¼ tsp
- 7.Turmeric Powder: A pinch( can also be used instead of food colour )
- 8.Egg: 1 No
- 9.Cardamom Powder:1/4 tsp
- 10.Oil
- 11.Water
Steps to Prepare Dates Fry/ Dates Fritters.
Steps 1:
First add all-purpose flour, wheat flour, egg, sugar, salt, baking powder and turmeric powder in a bowl mix well. Once all the ingredients got mixed perfectly add water little by little to make a thick batter.
Step 2:
Take pitted and cleaned dates. Add those in the already prepared batter. Then mix the batter with dates and let it rest for an hour. Even though you can fry immediately after preparing the mix, Resting time can enhance the softness and taste of these dates dry.
Step 4:
After an hour, heat oil in a frying pan, make sure the oil is heated properly because if the oil is not heated up well the batter may absorb more oil than it normally does.
Step 5.
Deep fry the dates coated with batter and finally, yummy and delicious dates fry is ready to serve on your table.

Ingredients
- 15 No Dates
- 1 cups (180ml cup) All purpose flour
- 1 tbsp Wheat Flour
- 4 tbsp Sugar
- A pinch Salt
- ¼ tsp Baking Powder
- A pinch Turmeric Powder
- 1 No Egg
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
- Oil
- Water
Instructions
- Add All-purpose flour, wheat flour, egg, sugar, salt, baking powder and turmeric powder in a bowl mix well by adding water to make a thick paste.
- Add dates in the batter and mix well. let it rest for an hour.
- Heat oil in a frying pan, and deep fry the dates coated with batter. Yummy dates fry then ready to serve
