What is Kozhikal?
Kozhikal is the perfect evening snack with tea. It is a street food commonly available in Thalassery area, Kannur. The meaning of kozhikal in English is a chicken leg. However, this recipe doesn’t have chicken in it, it is a pure veg food, made of tapioca. A must-try recipe for people who like tapioca or spicy snacks.
It looks somewhat similar to the chicken leg, that’s how it might have got the name kozhikal. This is a crispy and a bit spicy masala coated fried tapioca, goes well with evening coffee/tea.
I have seen many times that people crowded around the thattukada(street food shop) near Thalassery bus stand with a cup of tea and a kozhikal in their hand. The smell itself when we pass nearby such shoppes make us feel like having/buying one right from there.
