Kozhikal

Kozhikal

Thalassery’s own kozhikal

Kozhikal is the perfect evening snack with tea and one of my favourite too. It is a street food commonly available in Thalassery area, Kannur. Kozhikal means chicken leg in English however, it doesn’t have chicken in it, made of tapioca, a pure veg recipe. A must-try recipe for people who like tapioca.

It looks somewhat similar to the chicken leg so that’s how it might have got the name kozhikal. Though this is a crispy and a bit spicy masala coated fried tapioca, goes well with evening coffee/tea.

During my school days, I have seen many times that people crowded around the thattukada(street food shop) near Thalassery bus stand with a cup of tea and a kozhikal in their hand. When we pass across such shoppes the smell itself can make us feel like having/buying one right from there.
